The Importance of Mums Being in Photos, from a Photographer's Perspective
As a photographer, I often come across mothers who shy away from being in front of the camera. They often prefer to take photos of their children instead, or they simply don’t feel comfortable in front of the lens. But, as a photographer, I strongly believe that it is important for mums to be in photos too. I am the actual worst for this, I have millions of photos of my family without me, and I often use the excuse that I am the photographer, but, now that my children are a bit older, they are really upset with me that there is hardly any pictures with me in them! A prime example is below. My favourite photo of my family, but I am on the other side of the camera.
Firstly, photos are a way of capturing memories. Mothers play an integral role in the lives of their children, and it is important for their children to have photos that showcase the love and bond between them. These photos will be cherished for years to come and will serve as a reminder of the love and care that was given to them.
Secondly, mothers are often the glue that holds a family together. They are the ones who make sacrifices, work hard, and ensure that their families are well taken care of. Being in photos is a way for them to celebrate and acknowledge their role in the family and the love they have for their children.
Thirdly, it is important for mothers to be in photos to break the cycle of the “absent mother” in family photos. Too often, mothers are the ones behind the camera and not in front of it. By being in photos, mothers can show their children what mum looked like when they were little, because when they are older, we too will be so much older.
Lastly, being in photos can also help boost a mother’s self-confidence and self-esteem. It’s a chance for them to see themselves in a different light and appreciate their own beauty and strength. If you are not confident in front of the camera, have no fear! Making you beautiful and confident in front of the camera is MY JOB! We start with hair and makeup, help with your outfits, posing and lighting settings and finish with flattering angles, all designed to make you look and feel fabulous!
In conclusion, as a photographer, I believe that it is important for mums to be in photos. Photos are a way of capturing memories, celebrating motherhood, breaking the cycle of the “absent mother”, and boosting self-confidence. So, to all the mothers out there, don’t be afraid to get in front of the camera and let your love and beauty shine through!
